Cartoon Lad Completes his "Basement Comics" Video Series
So when I was 12 in 1969, I spontaneously stopped doing homework, and started drawing comics. My parents had finished off the basement with linoleum tile and faux wood paneling — totally groooved the joint out!
I took it as an opportunity to set up my first comics studio and got to work on my graphic storytelling chops. Within a few years, I jumped into the emerging comics fanzine scene and published hundreds of pages of comics while in high school! It was hella fun.
One note, while I love autobio comics by others, I don’t enjoy drawing them! I make comics that incorporate my experience of course, but they are FICTION! I am still compelled to get down parts of my story for the record, thus I made some wee videos about my EARLY comics life.
You can check out these videos at my Instagram, and most of them are also up at Youtube.
We interrupt this story with breaking news! Steve has painted THE WOLMAN on his Telecaster in honor of Halloween / Dia de Muertos!
Meanwhile, I’m a mere four months away from the publication of my next graphic novel, Crazy for You from Fantagraphics.
If you dig my Basement Comics videos, please share them with your comics-minded friends! I’m looking to update my public profile in the run-up to the publication of this new book. Thank you very much!
Steve
